“Apart but Together”: Isolation, Connections and Affection Among the Members of Afro-Brazilian Religions During the Covid-19 Pandemic

What does social isolation mean for members of religious groups who constitute themselves as a family and value meetings, physical contact bodily experience? strategies do they follow to face the loneliness that entails? Since middle March 2020, when World Health Organization (WHO) declared risk pandemic number contagions SARS-Cov-2 in Brazil was beginning grow, most communities Afro-Brazilian religions have adhered order avoid contagion, protect their contribute containing progress among population. The phrase “Apart but together”, which accompanies shared intention preserving life suspension celebrations is manifested an intensification virtual communications, seminars, debates, prayers rituals with online participation. Messages, posts, photos videos reconstitute network relationships, care, affection solidarity reaffirm belongings identities.
